Measures taken by Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) countries to counter the effects of COVID-19 in the Housing Sector

Across the globe, housing sector practitioners are deliberating policy and programme responses to the effects of COVID-19 in their countries.  Lenders, landlords, and governments in particular are thinking about the impact that loss of livelihoods will have on the performance of their loan books and rental payment streams.  Currently, the African Union for Housing Finance is collecting reactions from its members and colleagues. In the meantime, this short report illustrates measures taken by countries in the Latin American and Caribbean region, to counter the effects of COVID-19 in their housing sectors.  The report sets out measures relating to leasing or rental, and to mortgage credit.  We are grateful to MINURVI (an association of Ministers and High Authorities on Housing and Urban Planning in Latin America and the Caribbean) for sharing this report.
