2019 Housing Finance in Africa Yearbook - 10th anniversary edition
Investor interest in affordable housing has grown considerably in the past ten years, yet investors remain desperate for information about the affordable housing market, its opportunities and its risks. Their enthusiasm will dissipate if specific opportunities cannot be identified and quantified in sufficiently reliable ways. Current investment in affordable housing in Africa, while growing, is still grossly insufficient. For this reason, our Housing Finance in Africa Yearbook, now in its 10th edition, focuses on building the argument for investment in affordable housing.
The 2019 Yearbook was launched at the Joint AUHF and IUHF Conference in Cape Town, South Africa, on 4 November 2019. The comprehensive publication now covers 55 African countries and five regions, and is produced in both English and French.
It is the collaborative output of over 42 contributors, who together form a community of practice of housing finance experts in-country. This year we have substantially revamped our data collection and curation processes, pushing ourselves and our authors to confront serious challenges in country with accessing numbers on housing and housing finance. The effort is part of a larger concerted campaign by CAHF to promote a Data Agenda for Africa which advocates for more transparent, credible and timely data on housing finance across the continent, as part of the critical market infrastructure required to expand affordable housing investment.
