Econsult Botswana’s Economic Review: Second Quarter 2015

Econsult Botswana‘s Economic Review for the second quarter (april – june) of 2015 has a special feature (on page 12), profiling housing finance in Botswana.

The feature notes that there are concerns over housing availability and affordability, as low density development and limited urban land constrains the supply of housing. It argues that most households cannot afford a mortgage, while it detailing the Self-Help Housing Scheme, which assists low income households self-build. The article goes on to argue for the need for ‘alternative housing financing mechanisms that could have a broader and more equitable impact, and be more sustainable’.
