(Potential) Impact of Social Housing on the South African Housing Market
Social housing—a term that refers to subsidised rental housing in South Africa—differs from private rental in that it receives capital subsidies from the state. In South Africa, where there is an undersupply of rental housing, the question should be whether social housing is the best use of state funding, and how can it it most effectively catalyse investment into the market and enhance affordability. This presentation was delivered by the Executive Director of CAHF, Kecia Rust, at an AFD/NHFC Social Housing Workshop on 01 June 2016.
