Radical Economic Transformation: Leveraging the housing asset through trade
As of 2015, there were 1606 278 government-subsidised houses (RDP and BNG) on the Deeds Registry in South Africa: 26% of the total residential property market in the country. This presentation was given as part of the South African National Treasury’s Cities Support Programme and provides an overview of the resale potential in the government subsidised housing market, with examples from Delft, a low income area on the outskirts of Cape Town. It was presented at the Faces of the City lecture series at the University of the Witwatersrand, in Johannesburg.
