Research into Housing Supply and Functioning Markets

This presentation was presented at the FinMark Forum by Matthew Nell of Shisaka Development Services. Based on research conducted for the Banking Association, the presentation covers issues of housing supply and demand, provides an understanding of the functioning of the affordable housing market and the provides some recommendation as to how enhance access to affordable housing finance.  The research was the most comprehensive of its time and defined the housing backlog for Financial Sector Charter (FSC) target market households in South Africa at 625 000 units in 2005.  This was expected to increase to approximately 747 000 units by 2010.
