Research Report 3: Literature review on entrepreneuship, housing and housing finance

This paper is part of research that provides a deeper understanding of housing as a productive asset and it role in promoting economic activity and improved affordable housing supply, through supporting the activities of home based and small scale landlords. The research focused on obtaining a detailed understanding of how small scale landlords and home based entrepreneurs operate, the key constraints that they face and the extent to which they are using their home as a productive asset.  The research project includes 12 Resource Reports, a final report on Home Based Enterprises, another on Small Scale Landlords, and one overview report that consolidates the findings.  The research was sponsored by FinMark Trust, the Social Housing Foundation, the National Department of Housing, and Nedbank.
