Unlocking housing finance for women in Ghana and Senegal: Insights from the Her Home II report

In 2020, the IFC published a market study on housing finance for women in three countries titled ‘Her Home – Housing Finance for Women’ exploring the scope and nature of women’s housing finance markets in Colombia, India, and Kenya. In 2022,  a subsequent report “Her Home II: Housing Finance for Women in Ghana, Senegal and Indonesia” commissioned by the IFC conducted diagnostic and scoping assessments in two additional countries (Ghana and Senegal).

This article published in the Quarterly Journal of the International Union for Housing Finance (2023 Winter Edition) shares insights from the Her Home II Report  and shares country-specific insights into the barriers women face in obtaining housing finance; and critically how financial institutions and development partners can support increased access to housing finance for women.
