A Literature Review of Housing Finance Development in Sub-Saharan Africa

This is the original paper that scoped the literature of articles, documents and reports published between 1999-2007 in housing finance in Africa to identify areas of opportunity for a then-to-be formed Centre for Affordable Housing Finance in Africa.  It was commissioned by the FinMark Trust as part of an investigation on whether there was a need to address housing finance in financial sector development efforts in Africa.  The literature review focused on the developments in housing finance, both mortgage and micro finance taking place in Sub-Saharan Africa, and explored how this was being monitored and presented for analysis.
