Two Years in Piloting Housing Microfinance in Tanzania

Habitat for Humanity Tanzania began its Makazi Bora housing microfinance program in late June 2009 with the aim of establishing an effective housing microfinance product and methodology that would contribute to the growth of the practice in the region. This report covers the first two years of operation. Makazi Bora roughly translates as “better housing” in the Kiswahili language spoken across Tanzania and much of East Africa.
